Sölvi Kolbeinsson

Sölvi Kolbeinsson was born in Reykjavik on February 17th, 1996. He studied classical saxphone in Tónmenntaskóli Reykjavíkur and Tónlistarskóli Reykjavíkur and then jazz saxophone in Tónlistarskóli FÍH and Jazz-Institut in Berlin where he finished his BA degree in the summer of 2019. Throughout his studies he has won many prizes and accolades and has twice performed with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra.

Sölvi is a member of many music ensembles in Iceland and Germany, including Volcano Bjorn, Hamamelidae, Julius Windisch Quartet, duo with drummer Magnús Trygvason Eliassen, Camus Quartet and Gaukshreiðrið. Sölvi has performed at jazz festivals in Germany, Finland, Norway and Iceland as well as playing concerts in Sweden, Holland, Switzerland, Scotland and Poland. He received the Iceland Music Award in 2016 as the rising star in the category of jazz and blues music.
