On August 27, 2024, the release concert of the album Íslendingur í Uluwatu-temple will be held, which includes music for big band by Stefán S. Stefánsson, performed by The Reykjavik BigBand. The album’s title track won the Icelandic Music Award for Composition of the Year in the Jazz and Blues category 2024.
This album is number two in the Íslendingur trilogy, but before that came the album Íslendingur i Alhambrahöll, which won the Icelandic Music Award in 2015. The album’s title has its roots in Stefán’s travels to Indonesia, where the marvelous Uluwatu temple is located on the edge of a cliff on the beautiful Indian Ocean coast.
Most of the works are new, but there are also some older works that Stefán rewrote for this recording. The excellent performance by the members of Stórsveitar Reykjavíkur and the high-quality recordings by Hafþór Karlsson gave the album the life it needed.
The album can be found on all the main streaming sites of the World Wide Web.
This album is number two in the “Icelander” trilogy, and number one was “An Icelander at Alhambra Palace,” which won the Icelandic Music Award 2015.
