Bisgaard/Jónsson Quartet – Musical Bridge Between Iceland and Denmark
The quartet is exciting collaborative project between Icelandic saxophonist Ólafur Jónsson and Danish drummer Ulrik Bisgaard. The two have worked together in recent years and have performed at numerous concerts in both Denmark and Iceland. Joining them for this performance are pianist Eyþór Gunnarsson and bassist Þorgrímur Jónsson. The program will present a carefully curated selection of music that bridges Danish and Icelandic musical traditions, featuring both original compositions and arrangements of traditional folk songs.
As part of the preparation for this collaboration, music from the book Højskolensangbogens melodibog—a well-known and widely respected Danish songbook—was explored for inspiration. Among the pieces performed will be “Drømte Mig En Drøm i Nat”, believed to be the oldest preserved Danish composition. This concert presents a unique artistic fusion of Danish and Icelandic musical traditions, reflecting the distinctive blend of these two musical worlds.
