Saxophonist Ólafur Jónsson and Danish drummer Ulrik Bisgaard have built a strong musical partnership in recent years, performing numerous concerts together across Denmark, including in Copenhagen and Aarhus. Ulrik is a versatile drummer, known for his melodic approach, subtle touch, and driving swing.
Later this year, Ulrik will travel to Iceland, where he and Ólafur will join forces with pianist Eyþór Gunnarsson and bassist Þorgrímur Jónsson to rehearse and record a new album. The project explores a creative fusion of Danish and Icelandic musical traditions.
Drawing inspiration from the influential Højskolensangbogens melodibog (The Folk High School Songbook), the album will feature both original compositions and reimagined folk songs and traditional melodies. Some of this material was previewed in a concert at Hafnarborg, including the performance of Drømte Mig En Drøm i Nat — believed to be the oldest preserved Danish composition. The concert was met with great acclaim and highlighted the unique musical dialogue between these two cultures.
An Evening Pass is available for every night of the festival at Harpa, granting access to all concerts that evening. All performances take place in Norðurljós Hall (2nd floor). Please note: There are no single-ticket sales for individual evening concerts at Harpa.*
