The Festival will be held September 5-9 and is returning to many smaller venues in town. There won’t be a Festival Pass but one can purchase tickets to individual events or a discount package to 4, 6 and 8 concerts. It goes without saying that certain concerts will sell out quickly due to the size of the venues (ranging from 70 to 180 to 300). Therefore we wanted you to be the first to know before we announce it to the world.
We will send out a few emails in the coming weeks to introduce the program. Let’s start by introducing our US artist, guitarist Ralph Towner.
Towner will perform a solo guitar set at Tjarnarbio Friday September 7th at 9:30pm where he will play pieces from his solo album “My Foolish Heart” as well as ther originals.
“Inspired is perhaps the most meaningful word to describe Towner’s guitar work. It floats in the mist somewhere between classical and jazz, in a nether land that Towner has singlehandedly staked out as his own personal territory; a musical mode of rare beauty and singular expression.”–Ralph Miriello, Jazztimes, USA
3 other concerts will take place that same evening. In Tjarnarbio at 7:30pm the group Arora lead by bassist Sigmar Þór Matthíasson will celebrate a new release. In Iðnó, a 3 minute walk from Tjarnarbio, another bassist, Richard Andersson celebrates a CD release with his trio NOR and cellist Þórdís Gerður Jónsdóttir closes the program at Iðnó við her sextett.
Tickets are available at Tix.is and the program is viewable at www.reykjavikjazz.is.
