Reykjavík College of Music Big Band Performs at Reykjavik Jazz Festival 2025

The Big Band of the Reykjavik College of Music (MÍT) will take the
stage at the Reykjavik Jazz Festival on Saturday, August 30 at 5:00 PM
during the MÍT Showcase concert at Bird Reykjavík. The ensemble
directed by the acclaimed musician and bandleader Samúel Jón
Samúelsson.

The band has had an active and productive year, performing at various
events including the _Jazz Village_ in Garðabær and a collaborative
concert with the Sankt Annæ Bigband from Copenhagen, held at the
school’s own venue in Rauðagerði 27. These appearances have further
solidified the group’s reputation as a dynamic platform for young and
ambitious jazz musicians.

The program will feature music by some of the greats of big band
history, including Thad Jones, Sammy Nestico, and Don Ellis alongside
original compositions by the band’s conductor, Samúel Jón
Samúelsson. Audiences can expect a vibrant, creative, and high-energy
performance that celebrates the spirit and power of big band jazz.
