Saumur is a collaborative project between Arve Henriksen, Skúli Sverrisson, and Hilmar Jensson. Their self-titled album was released by Mengi in 2016 and was nominated for the Nordic Council Music Prize the same year, receiving a special honorary mention. Since then, the trio has performed widely across Europe, both as a trio and in collaboration with the internationally renowned vocal ensemble Trio Mediæval.
Their music, which is largely based on improvisation, is mysterious and beautiful — a play between light and shadow.
Arve Henriksen is one of Norway’s most renowned jazz musicians, having performed worldwide. He is a unique trumpet player and vocalist who has collaborated with a wide range of artists including Bill Frisell, David Sylvian, and Tigran Hamasyan.
