Bliss Quintet are among the freshest voices in Norwegian jazz, embodying the vibrancy and innovation of a new generation of musicians. The group has quickly gained recognition as one of the most exciting young bands on the Norwegian jazz scene, making a strong impression with their releases Dramaqueen (2022) and Glasshouse (2023).
Their music features dramatic, energetic ballads, fanfare-like horn riffs, complex rhythms, and open harmonic landscapes. Central to the band’s sound is a spirit of playful interaction, raw energy, and free improvisation — echoing the legacy of influential Nordic ensembles like Atomic and Masqualero.
Following the release of their second album Glasshouse on Jazzland Recordings in 2023, Bliss Quintet has been touring actively, with standout performances at clubs and festivals such as Burghausen International Jazzweek, Jazzclub Ferrara, Moldejazz, and Jazzahead.
The band’s distinctive lineup includes unique instruments like the quarter-tone trumpet and acoustic fretless bass guitar. These elements lend their music a striking originality — unfamiliar, yet never overpowering the group’s rich and cohesive sound.
Line-up:
Oscar Andreas Haug – trumpet
Zakarias Meyer Øverli – saxophone
Benjamín Gísli Einarsson – piano
Gard Kronborg – bass
Rino Sivathas – drums
