The band Barrio 27 brings vibrant, danceable Latin music to the stage, with a mission to expand the Latin music scene in Iceland and strengthen the local dance culture. The group was founded in May 2024 by percussionist, trumpeter, and drummer Alexandra Rós Norðkvist, who realized a long-held dream earlier that year by spending several months in Havana, studying with three of Cuba’s top percussionists: El Panga (Tomás Ramos Ortiz), Betún (Luis Valiente), and El Peje (Juan Carlos Rojas).
Alexandra plans to pursue university studies abroad with a focus on Latin music, but she’s already made her mark on the scene in Iceland — performing with Barrio 27 and other Latin ensembles, and building strong ties to the country’s dance communities, including Salsamafían, Salsa Iceland, and Salsa North. In collaboration with Salsa North in Akureyri, she has also offered musicality workshops with dancer Mike Sanchez, exploring the deep connection between music and dance.
An Evening Pass is available for every night of the festival at Harpa, granting access to all concerts that evening. All performances take place in Norðurljós Hall (2nd floor). Please note: There are no single-ticket sales for individual evening concerts at Harpa.*
