At this concert, supported by the Children’s Culture Fund, SVoM Big band, Litlasveit and Djasskrakkar, will perform at Iðnó as part of Reykjavík Jazz Festival 2025.
Djasskrakkar are the hosts of the Children‘s jazz festival in Mosfellsbær (Barnadjass í Mosó). The group consists of six children aged 10–15 who have learned to play jazz by ear under the guidance of Odd André Elveland, the founder of Improbasen, a jazz music school in Oslo for children. The band members are Edda Margrét (clarinet/saxophone), Emil Huldar (piano), Helga Margrét (drums), Rakel Elaisa (trumpet), Sigríður Sóllilja (double base) og Svandís Erla (saxophone). Sunna Gunnlaugsdóttir, jazz pianist and composer will lead the ensemble in this performance where they will among others songs, perform two new Icelandic songs by Sunna Gunnlaugs and Karl Olgeirsson.
Litlasveit and the Big Band of SVoM are both offshoots of the School Band of Vesturbær and Miðbær (SVoM) leded by Ingi Garðar Erlendsson. Litlasveit is made up of six SVoM members who enjoy playing together and composing their own music.
The group is relatively new, it was officially formed earlier this year. Litlasveit plays music inspired by various styles, including jazz, rock, and contemporary genres. The band members are Björn (electric bass and guitar), Frosti Pétur (trumpet), Ísar Orri (drums), Kári Kolbeinn (piano), Styrkár Flóki (tuba), and Tryggvi Kristinn (saxophone).
The SVoM Big Band includes 25 instrumentalists aged 14-16. They have participated in the annual big band marathon conducted by Reykjavik Big Band . The band is conducted by Samúel Jón Samúelsson.
