National Gallery – Tómas R. Einarsson and Eyþór Gunnarsson

The opening day of Reykjavik Jazz Festival will be focused around a series of short concerts taking place in the National Gallery of Iceland (Listasafn Íslands). Each concert last approximately 30 minutes and the series is staged in two of the gallery’s main halls. Click here to buy tickets.

Innst inni (English:Deep Inside) is a CD from the Icelandic double-bassist/composer Tómas R. Einarsson (1953), released in 2017. There he joins forces with the pianist Eythor Gunnarsson (1961), a long time collaborator. Gunnarsson is best known as the keyboardist of the fusion group Mezzoforte, but the grand piano has become his favourite instrument in later years. Einarsson has released several Latin Jazz records, but on this CD the focus is on ballads and slow waltzes.

„Allow this recording to give way to peace.“ C. Michael Bailey, All About Jazz (USA)

“I’m reminded of Keith Jarrett and Charlie Haden´s wonderful Jasmine from 2010, with the obvious contrast that that duo album featured only standards…The ethos is consistent and monochrome, but the results are highly engaging nonetheless.” **** Andy Hamilton, Jazz Journal (United Kingdom)

“This is one of the most unexpected and profound musical experiences I have had for many months.” Thorbjörn Sjögren, Jazz-Special (Denmark)
