Singer María Magnúsdóttir pays tribute to Anita O’Day at Reykjavík Jazz Festival this year. The quartet consists of María, Karl Olgeirsson on piano, Sigmar Þór Matthíasson on bass and Matthías Hemstock on drums.

Anita O’Day (October 18, 1919 – November 23, 2006) was one of the great American jazz singers. This year marks 100 years since her birth. Born Anita Belle Colton, O’Day was admired for her sense of rhythm and dynamics, and her first album came out in 1951. Anita’s early big band appearances shattered the traditional image of the “”girl singer””.
