The audience of Reykjavík Jazz are in for a treat at this event in Mengi as the long-collaborating duo of Sölvi Kolbeinsson and Magnús Trygvason Eliassen will be joined by guitarist extraordinaire Hilmar Jensson resulting in a trio not to be missed.
Alto saxophonist Sölvi Kolbeinsson and drummer Magnús Trygvason Eliassen met while working with various groups on the Icelandic music scene throughout the last few years. They started playing together as a duo in 2015 and have since performed multiple times at Mengi as well as in other local venues. During this time they have weaved their way through countless standards and other favourite tunes of theirs written by people like Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, Paul Motian, Bud Powell and Antônio Carlos Jobim. They usually tend to play with these tunes in their own free spirit, putting their personal touch on them through improvisation and interplay but always treating each tune with respect and grace.
Hilmar Jensson needs no introduction to Icelandic jazz enthusiasts and in the perfect world the same would apply to jazz enthusiasts everywhere. He has been at the forefront of forward thinking jazz musicians in Iceland and is considered to be one of Iceland’s finest guitarists.
