The opening day of Reykjavik Jazz Festival will be focused around a series of short concerts taking place in the National Gallery of Iceland (Listasafn Íslands). Each concert last approximately 30 minutes and the series is staged in two of the gallery’s main halls.
Gunnar Hilmarsson Tríó (GHT) plays swing music with two guitars and a double bass. Its inspiration comes from the French-Belgian gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt. In the early 20th century Reinhardt laid the foundation to a form of jazz guitar style which today bears his name and is still in constant evolution. The band has also been trying out new jazz standards in this style with good results. In January 2018 GHT performed at Django Amsterdam at Bimhuis and got a standing ovation. Band Members are Gunnar Hilmarsson on guitar, Jóhann Guðmundsson on guitar and Leifur Gunnarsson on double bass.
