Ekki þarf að  að nefna nema “In the Mood” eða “Moonlight Serenade” til að staðfesta það.

Stórsveit Reykjavíkur mun hefja starfsár sitt í Hörpu með glæsilegri dagskrá sem innblásin er af Glenn Miller tónlist hljómsveitar hans. Þór Breiðfjörð í hlutverkum Tex Beneke og Ray Eberle ásamt Kristjönu Stefánsdóttur. Borgardætur sem Andrews systur, íslensk útgáfa af söngkvartettinum The Moderners og síðast en ekki síst rjómi íslenska jazzins; tólnlistarmenn Stórsveitar Reykjavíkur undir stjórn Sigurðar Flosasonar. Saman munu þau flytja upprunalega útsetningar þessarar einstæðu hljómsveitar. Andi stríðsáranna svífur yfir vötnum í ógleymanlegri upplifun þar sem ekkert er til sparað.

Tónleikarnir fara fram í Hörpu 31. ágúst kl 20.

The Glenn Miller Orchestra was the most popular band of the swing era. No other band sold as many records or had as loyal a following as the Glenn Miller big band in the thirties and forties.

The band and its repertoire is without doubt the best example of the era when pop music and jazz where the one and same. “In the Mood” or “Moonlight Serenade” are but two of the extensive list of hits that confirm that.

The Reykjavik Big Band kicks of a new era in it’s history with a tribute to Glenn Miller’s contribution to jazz history. Singer Thor Breidfjord (the star of Les Miserables) along with a male singing quartet led by Gisli Magna, Borgardaetur (Iceland’s answer to the Andrews sisters) and last but not least the cream of the Icelandic jazz scene: the musicians of The Reykjavik Big Band under the direction of Sigurdur Flosason.
